Constructive design research
Constructive Design Research teaches the fundamentals of design research: who is the research staff at the faculty, what they are working on, what design research methods exist, and how to implement them through positioning research and writing an academic paper. During the course, my group worked in a lab setting to study how engaging with different Machine Learning (ML) models on an iPad-like research setup can help designers understand and design ML implementations.
I particularly appreciated the research-through-design methodologies that were presented in the course. These methodologies provided me with a helpful guide for conducting design research in the future, and I became more adept at engaging users, managing data, and understanding the intricacies of the design research process. Furthermore, I gained a deeper understanding of how to effectively apply quantiative research using a design prototype, which further strengthened my understanding of the research-through-design approach.
